Furniture Project Keeping With Eastern European Traditions

Quintessence is a project formed by designers Mihai Stamati and Maria Bubuioc, consisting of a series of furniture inspired by traditional Romanian and Moldavian craftsmanship. The duo, who originate from the two countries, experimented using natural materials after they were used in supporting local manufacturing and in the creation of new, sustainable products. They have worked in collaboration with local craftsmen to keep traditional methodology passed down families generation to generation. As well as retaining traditions, it also helps the families of the craftsmen to maintain a living.
The catalogue of designs focuses on using textiles such as linen, hemp yarn, manually woven hemp textiles, reed, and feathers, that can be paired with wooden structure. The final result is a beautiful collection of goods with a feel-good tale behind how they were created.
