Marcos Buarque de Hollanda

Marcos Buarque de Hollanda is a Brazilian artist using special markers, now drawing on paper and wide canvas surfaces. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he is passionate about drawing. From 12 to 16, he practised drawing in the Arts School of Parque Lage, where he developed a technique of free drawing, with ‘dirty’ and ‘fuzzy’ lines, mostly using nib and Indian ink, sometimes adding brush and mixing ink and water for shades of grey. After having stopped for many years, he recently did a comeback in 2016. He is 42 now – by revisiting and transposing my drawing technique from paper to canvas, now exploring new possibilities in large formats, after discovering versatile markers like Posca, Molotow and MTN.
