SILLER Contemporary will be presenting the first solo exhibition of the Berlin-based artist couple Römer + Römer in Hamburg.

In this exhibition, titled “Through the Window into the Den of Thieves,” Römer + Römer will be displaying paintings about the FUSION festival.
Although the festival is taking a creative break this year, the exhibition pays homage to the early days when it was founded.

Without attributing values or moralizing, the artist duo poses essential questions concerning human social behavior, group dynamics, inclusion and exclusion, extraordinary experiences, and the ritualization of experience – A view of temporary communities in other spaces. When observing the festival phenomenon more closely, it is impossible to avoid the philosopher Michel Foucault and his concept of spaces of otherness. These “spaces of otherness” that he terms “heterotopias” are “real places, effective places […] actually realized utopias in which the real places within culture are simultaneously represented, contested, and shifted; to some extent they are places outside of all places, whether or not they can actually be located.”
